About The Event
Katie is an Associate Portfolio Manager within the Sustainable Investment and Stewardship Strategies (SISS) division of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), the largest educator-only pension fund in the world. Katie is responsible for helping to lead the sustainable private market portfolio to further CalSTRS’ mission to secure the financial future and sustain the trust of California’s educators. She contributes to overseeing the SISS Portfolio, which has an opportunistic mandate to pursue investments that are additive to the Total Fund with demonstrably positive contributions to a more sustainable global economy. The SISS Portfolio invests in climate solutions across three broad risk-return profiles: (1) Infrastructure; (2) Private Credit; and (3) Private Equity. As of 6/30/2025, the SISS Portfolio had committed over $4.45 billion across 36 direct, co-investment, and fund investments spanning the three targeted risk-return profiles.
Previously, Katie served as an investment principal at Walton Enterprises, the family office for the descendants of Sam and Helen Walton, where she was responsible for multi-asset class investment strategies in thematic areas of interest to the family, including climate solutions. Prior to Walton Enterprises, she was senior manager of social investment and alternative finance at Pact and part of Morgan Stanley’s investment banking transportation group. She also spent four years working in West Africa with the United Nations World Food Programme and the European Union. Katie earned a Master of Business Administration and Master of Arts in international studies from the Wharton School and Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts in languages and linguistics from Georgetown University.
